We continued exploring spatial color theory as the Dolphin and Beluga class learned watercolor techniques. We studied contemporary artist Dean Crousser and worked wet-into-wet and wet-into-dry, finalizing our piece with splattering and dry-brushing. Students painted in masses to develop grounds with warm/cool color shifts. The students did an outstanding job! This was a teacher-guided project and required students to "trust" their teacher lol.

K-2 created these adorable penguins using markers and tempera paint. The penguins were created with watercolor and Sharpie. We used a wet brush to let the marker color "bleed" for a cool effect.
Students in 6th - 8th finalized their 0-9 watercolor paintings. They chose personally significant letters/numbers and explored all the different watercolor and mixed-media techniques to bring their projects to life. Students were encouraged to add additional layers using graphite shading, colored pencils, glazes of watercolor, etc, to alter the shapes to create depth.
We finished our month making these super cool paper bag snowflakes. The process is simple, with a big impact. We glued 8-10 bags together (depending on size) and cut the edges to alter the silhouette. Then, all you gotta do is attach a string and open it up.
Ellie is our December Artist of the Month. Ellie is an optimistic and talented art student. She has created outstanding work this semester and consistently shows kindness to her classmates. Her Jasper Johns-inspired painting was wonderful and showed tremendous attention to detail. Our Artist of the Month will receive a (tiny) Artist of the Month Trophy and a (huge) Pencil prize. Keep up the excellent work!
