The Beluga class learned about Yayoi Kusama and contemporary artist Sheree Smith. Students painted rhythmic repeating lines as they built skill and (attempted) to practice mindfulness. ;-) Students did an outstanding job! All art has been uploaded to Artsonia. The artwork featured here was created by Tatum S.
K-2 learned about value. We began our paintings by filling our page with 5-7 lines that showed dynamic movement. Students filled in the negative space by mixing varying shades of gray, from light to dark. The results were fantastic! The finished projects have all been uploaded to Artsonia. The artwork featured here was created by Gwynneth B.
Hello color! The youngest two classes jumped into color by creating a color wheel while learning about primary, secondary, tertiary, and analogous colors. Students will apply what they know about analogous colors on these Dean Russo-inspired Funky Tigers.
Sea Lions and Manatees learned about artist Wayne Thiebaud. Thiebaud is most known for his iconic dessert paintings that use thick application of paint and lush color. Students first developed drawing skills to show value gradation created by directional light. They transferred that skill into their final design. Students were encouraged to use heavily-saturated sophisticated colors.
Louisa is a beam of sunshine, eager to help other students and always ready to speak kind words to her classmates. Louisa brings good energy, enthusiasm, and optimism into the art classroom. I've witnessed Louisa consistently going out of her way to assist her classmates and keep our studio neat and tidy. Our Artist of the Month will receive a (tiny) Artist of the Month Trophy and a (huge) Pencil prize. Keep up the excellent work!
