It was my absolute joy to host you for our November Art Night! It was a blast creating handmade jewelry alongside our amazing Premo community. Hopefully, we all walked away with some appreciation for handmade jewelry.
The Dolphin and Beluga class concentrated on spatial understanding as they built form sculptures. These kids did a fantastic job on this multi-step process. They had to design their sculpture, draw and model the forms, color with anticipation of directional light, and re-build their 2D sculpture so it has a sense of weight and depth. Kids did an outstanding job.
Look at these fab works by Davide, Davis, and Gwynneth.
K-2 had a fun day learning the practice of blind contour drawing. Their drawings were hilarious and wonderful. (Students were forced to truly study visual information without being allowed a peek at their paper.) Students learned about the contour drawing practices of Pablo Picasso. This practice is a wonderful mindfulness activity at home on a rainy day.
Students in 3rd through 8th grade have been building skills in watercolor techniques. We have focused on color mixing, wet-into-wet, resist, and layering wet into dry. 3rd-5th graders have just started working on a landscape painting inspired by contemporary artist Dean Crouser. Sixth - Eighth graders have learned about artist Jasper Johns and are beginning a project inspired by his 0-9 number paintings.
For a fun crafty project that promoted color wheel understanding, students created a Lion. Skills included paper folding, color theory, fine motor development, two-tone painting, character design, and collage.
Sea Lions and Manatees explored contemporary artists, taking notes and researching modern artists and their craft. Students picked a favorite, gave a presentation, and led our class in a Feldman's model art critique.
Sarah B. is our November Artist of the Month. Sarah is a talented artist and diligent student. She's done outstanding work this semester and gave a fabulous presentation on Basquiat. She's kind and thoughtful to her classmates. Our Artist of the Month will receive a (tiny) Artist of the Month Trophy and a (huge) Pencil prize. Keep up the excellent work!
